LGBTI people and those who love ’em…
We’d so love you to join us in October for the first-ever, brand-spanking-new, and bloody amazing Ballarat Frolic Festival!
Frolic is a not-for-profit festival run by a small team of like-minded Ballaratians who want to support and show off the wonderful diversity of the region – and have lots of fun doing it. Our goal, beyond seeing Frolic established as an annual event, is to advance the acceptance, positive viability, health, well-being, and the unique culture and art of the LGBTQIA community in this region. Woah, that was a long sentence. Sorry, we’re just so super excited. Your participation can help us make regional Victoria even more awesome!
Saturday October 7th
Opening Night Hoe-Down
We kick off our festival, and kick up some dust, with an old-fashioned hoe-down. Join our amazing bluegrass band for a riotous dance party in our beautiful barn in the countryside. Buses will run all night to and from the venue, so come along and maybe meet the cowboy/girl/person of your dreams.
Sunday October 8th
Lazy Laneway Session
One of Ballarat’s finest bars, the Hop Temple, hosts our relaxed Sunday arvo laneway party. Between the food trucks and Hop’s ridiculously huge range of drinks, we’ll have your tastebuds singing.
Monday October 9th
Lesbian Speed Dating @ Sutton’s
This one is just for the ladies. Our classic twist on speed dating is hosted by Daylesford’s favorite Drag King, Lance DeBoyle.
Tuesday October 10th
“The Price is Wrong” @ Sutton’s
Fresh of the back of a world tour, Ballarat’s own Luke Tonkin will take over the festival with his hilarious game show trivia night.
Wednesday October 11th
Frolic Regional LGBTI Art Show
The opening soiree (that be a fancy word for party) for our art show. We’ll be showcasing the exceptional talent of the Goldfields region, with local artists present on the night to talk about their work. We are about to open submissions for the exhibition, so if you’re a regional LGBTI artist… get in touch!
Thursday October 12th
Frolic On Screen
Our queer film night will show a blend of docos and shorts with an emphasis on Australian LGBTI stories.
Friday October 13th
Open Mic Night @ Element
Element Night Club hosts our open mic night. Bring your skills and your shoes, we’re having dancing lessons, ukulele competitions, drag races and karaoke throw downs!
Saturday October 14th
Rainbow Collective Family Picnic
During the day Federation University’s LGBTQIA student association, Rainbow Collective will be hosting a youth and families picnic event. Expect games, competitions, and prizes – for all ages! Alcohol-free.
Saturday October 14th Evening
The Frolic Ball @ The Gaybles
We go out with a bang at our glitzy Frolic formal ball, with music from the 40-piece LGBTI concert band, Melbourne Rainbow Band. There will be prizes for best dressed and a live charity auction.
